RFSU Menopause Test – test for menopause

Find out if you’re going through menopause!

RFSU Menopause Test is a simple and quick test you can do at home that can identify higher levels in urine of FSH, hormones that increase in connection with perimenopause/menopause. The RFSU self-test for menopause appears positive when FSH levels in urine are over 25 mlU/ml or higher. A second positive test indicates that perimenopause/menopause has begun.

Besides the at-home test, RFSU offers a digital self-assessment test that gives a clearer picture of which phase of menopause you are in.

What does the Menopause test measure?

The FSH levels in the body are affected during menopause. When the body’s production of estrogen decreases, it leads to an increase in the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels. The FSH levels fluctuate during the entire pre- and perimenopausal period and there is an increase up until menopause. In particular, during the final years before menstruation stops, FSH levels can fluctuate greatly from 20 mlU/ml up to 80 mlU/ml. They then stabilize after menopause and end at a constant higher level of over 25 mlU/ml. Since FSH levels fluctuate so much, several tests are needed to confirm that you have a consistently raised hormone level and not just a temporary upswing.

On FSH and the menstrual cycle: Right before ovulation, that is 13-14 days after menstruation has started, you have a peak/increase in FSH (approximately 20 mlU/ml.) Which is why it is important to take the test twice during the first week of menstruation for both tests if you are still menstruating, that is if you have not hit menopause yet. For fertile women under 40, it is unusual to have increased FSH levels.

    Ett steg närmare förståelse

Taking an FSH self-test at home can be one piece of the puzzle in understanding if you are menopausal. But you need to look at other factors as well, such as age, illness history, symptoms experienced and your own estimate of the degree of your symptoms. By combining the RFSU Menopause Test with RFSU’s digital self-assessment test, you get a clearer picture of which phase of menopause you are in. The self-assessment test has been developed in collaboration with doctors and is based on those symptoms you are experiencing, which is the same method used by healthcare providers to diagnose menopause.

  • HOW TO DO THE TEST

    For menstruating women

Do the test 3-5 days after menstruation starts.

For women who no longer menstruate

Do the test at any time during the month.

    Test twice

FSH levels fluctuate. Test at least twice and test on the same day of the month as the previous test. For women with irregular menstruation, we recommend taking the test four times in a 2-3 month period.

    Complement with digital test

Complement the self-test results with RFSU’s digital self-assessment test.

    Important to remember

    • The product is intended for adult use only.
    • The FSH level must always take into consideration a woman’s age.
    • High consumption of alcohol, pregnancy and nursing can cause increased FSH levels..
    • Store in a dry place at normal room temperature (not under -2 Celsius or higher than 25 Celsius). Keep out of reach of children.
    • The test is not recommended for women using hormonal contraception (birth control pills, hormonal IUDs) or taking hormone-regulating medication for menopause symptoms.

    INTERPRETING THE RESULTS

Below we describe how to interpret the result, which you do exactly 5 minutes after taking the test.

    POSITIVE RESULTS

    • Two clear pink/red lines should appear in the results window. The color of the test line (T) is as strong or stronger than the control line (C).
    • This means that the concentration of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is equal to or higher than 25 mlU/ml.
    • In this case, the test should be repeated after 5-7 days, since the concentration of FSH fluctuates during the month. If a positive result is confirmed, the process of menopause may have started.

If you are experiencing significant discomfort from menopause-related symptoms, contact your gynecologist, midwife or physician for a definitive diagnosis.

    NEGATIVE RESULTS

Results are negative if only a weak pink/red control line (C) appears in the results window, or a weak pink/red test line (T) appears that is less intense than the control line.

    • This means that the concentration of FSH in the urine is lower than 25 mlU/ml and that the menopause process hasn’t yet started.
    • If the test is negative but you are still experiencing menopausal symptoms, take the test again after 40-60 days.

If you are experiencing significant discomfort from menopause-related symptoms, contact your gynecologist, midwife or physician for a definitive diagnosis.

    INVALID RESULTS

If no pink/red control line (C) appears, no line at all or if the line is a different color than pink or red, that means the test has not worked as it should.

The most common reasons for invalid results are:

    • The absorbent tip has not absorbed enough urine.
    • Urine ended up on the results window while the tip was being held under the stream of urine.

How does the RFSU Menopause Test work?

The test measures the hormone FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) in urine. A positive result is shown when the FSH level is equal to or above 25 mlU/ml, indicating that pre-menopause or menopause has started.

WHO IS THE MENOPAUSE TEST FOR?

RFSU’s menopause test is for women who are wondering if they are perimenopausal or menopausal and who are experiencing symptoms related to menopause, such as irregular menstruation cycles, hot flashes, difficulties sleeping and mood swings. The most common of these symptoms are experienced by women who are ages 45-65. By taking RFSU’s simple menopause test at home in combination with RFSU’s digital self-assessment test, women can get an indication if they are perimenopausal or menopausal.

SHOULD I TAKE RFSU’S DIGITAL SELF-ASSESSMENT TEST AS WELL?

We recommend that you complement your RFSU Menopause Test results by taking RFSU’s digital self-assessment test. The self-assessment is based on the symptoms you are experiencing, which is the same method used by healthcare providers to diagnose menopause. It has been developed in collaboration with doctors and provides a clearer picture of which phase of menopause you are in.

WHEN SHOULD I TAKE THE TEST?

    • For menstruating women: Do the test 3-5 days after menstruation starts.
    • For women who no longer menstruate: Do the test at any time during the month.

Women who are still menstruating need to test themselves several times and over a longer period of time to get an accurate indication of where they are in the menopause process. To confirm that you have consistently high FSH levels and it’s not a temporary spike.

If you haven’t yet passed menopause, we recommend you test yourself over a period of 2-3 months, since FSH levels stabilize and level out to a consistently high level after menopause. Exactly before menopause. Especially during the final years before menstruation stops, FSH levels fluctuate greatly and can vary from month to month.

For women with irregular menstruation, we recommend taking four test over a period of 2-3 months.

AT WHAT TIME OF DAY SHOULD I TAKE THE TEST?

You can take the test at any time during the day. But the first urine of the morning has higher levels of FSH and gives the most accurate results.

HOW ACCURATE IS THE RFSU MENOPAUSE TEST?

The test is more than 99% accurate at the time of testing.

Can you experience menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and mood swings but still end up with negative results?

Yes, you can be perimenopausal with menopausal symptoms but have not yet reached consistently higher FSH levels of 25 mUl/ml. Take the test again after 2 months.
